Layered legal records connected by an authority trail

VidiMitra · Indian legal research & drafting

Legal AI that keeps the authority in view.

VidiMitra is a grounded workspace for Indian law firms and advocates. It reads the matter, retrieves authority, builds lawyer-reviewable research and drafts with page-level provenance instead of invented citations.

Research assistance, not autonomous legal advice

The work gets faster. The lawyer keeps the judgement.

VidiMitra makes the evidentiary path visible. It brings the relevant source material, identifies what cuts against the position and explains when it cannot support a conclusion. The advocate reviews primary text and remains responsible for every filing and advice.

Grounded legal research

Ask a question against the shared legal corpus and the matter record. The response carries page-pinned excerpts, a retrieval trail and an explicit outcome when evidence is insufficient.

Balanced, reviewable memos

Research surfaces supporting, adverse and limiting authority that was retrieved. A lawyer receives assumptions, analysis boundaries, source list and warnings, rather than a confident black box.

Drafting with authority intact

The agent can author prose and pull targeted authority, while a deterministic composer controls the draft structure and citations. The result remains a lawyer's draft to review and sign.

Matter-ready ingestion

FIRs, orders, judgments and other PDFs are extracted page by page. Native text comes first, scanned pages can use OCR, and content hashes prevent duplicate processing.

Law that respects time

Research follows the law that governed the matter's date. The product handles the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act to BNS, BNSS and BSA transition instead of treating upload date as legal history.

Firm privacy by design

Private matter documents are isolated per firm through row-level security. A document joins the shared corpus only through an explicit, rights-cleared and curator-approved route.

How the VidiMitra engine works

An agent loop constrained by the record, not a chatbot guessing at law.

The advisor and drafting agents can search and re-search the corpus, but their job ends at grounded, cited material and reviewable prose.

  1. 01

    Read the record

Matter documents are kept private, extracted by page and indexed with their original source and processing trail.

  2. 02

    Plan the research

The system identifies legal issues, facts, citations, jurisdiction and date before it searches the appropriate authority.

  3. 03

    Retrieve the authority

Structured and full-text retrieval, citation links and document hierarchy locate whole relevant sections rather than opaque vector matches.

  4. 04

Return work a lawyer can inspect

Every material proposition stays attached to an excerpt, page and authority; the lawyer reviews the research or draft before it goes anywhere.

Trust is the feature

What VidiMitra refuses to do matters as much as what it can do.

No fabricated authority

Where retrieval is insufficient, VidiMitra returns that limitation rather than inventing a citation or an answer.

No hidden adverse material

Retrieved authority that limits the position is separated for review, not quietly discarded.

No cross-firm leakage

Firm workspaces, matter documents, saved drafts and advisor conversations remain protected by tenancy rules.

No automatic legal conclusion

Research, drafts and warnings are delivered for qualified lawyer review, not as a litigation decision.
